Information:
Preparation Avanti offers cerebrosides isolated from brain
tissue.
After mild alkaline hydrolysis, the pure cerebrosides
are isolated by column chromatography.
Note
The total brain cerebrosides appear as a double spot on thin
layer chromatography (CHCL3-methanol-water-65:25:4).
The top spot corresponds to ceresine which contain non-hydroxylated
fatty acids, and the bottom spot corresponds to phrenosin which
contain hydroxylated fatty acids. *Note: Results expressed
as area percentage by FAME - GC/FID
