Preparation
	Avanti's sphingosine is prepared from sphingomyelin. The hydrolysis of the phosphocholine and the fatty amide is performed by processes that do not alter the stereochemistry of the sphingosine molecule. The product is isolated by high-performance liquid chromatography.
