- Prepare hot soapy water using a non phosphate detergent (such as Dawn™).
- Place glassware in the hot soapy water. Additional detergent may be added directly to especially dirty glassware.
- Use the appropriate brushes and/or sponges to clean the piece of glassware, both inside and outside.
- Rinse with tap water and carefully inspect glassware for cleanliness.
- If glassware is not clean, return to the hot soapy water (additional detergent may be added to the glassware) for additional cleaning / tap water rinse.
- Rinse with DI water.
- Rinse with methanol at least twice, or until all excess water is removed. (Always do this over a waste bucket!). Add storage methanol to containers. Do not discard storage methanol.
- Cover each piece of clean glassware with a piece of saran wrap. Never leave clean glassware uncovered!
- Labeling and Storage:
- Assure each piece of clean glassware is wrapped with saran wrap.
- Assure all containers have storage methanol.
- All clean manufactured glassware must be labeled to include glassware technician initials, clean date and a statement of “expiration” (all glassware has thirty days shelf life after which it must be re-cleaned).
